A taper is the simplest self-centering joint there is, and alumina is the material that survives the environment around it. These conical sleeves are ground on the taper surface so the included angle and roundness are accurate along the whole length — the sleeve locates, insulates and centers by wedging, without shims.
Wall thickness, small-end and large-end diameters and taper angle are all specified per drawing. Thin-wall tapered sleeves and solid cones for locating pins are both produced in our plant.
